English as a Second Language |
|||
Among the vital services required by immigrants in the United States is assistance with learning English. The ability to read and speak English is esssential to navigating one's way in our country. Filling out forms, applying and being hired for jobs, opening a bank account, enrolling children in school, etc. all require facility in speaking, reading, and writing English. Women often have more obstacles in learning the language because their responsibilites for the care of their children prevent them from leaving the home to study and they have limited time to do so. Our programs in both the colonias of El Paso and Ciudad Juárez enable these women to study English right in their own neighborhood, on their own time. When they become comfortable with the English language many doors are opened for them and opportunities grow. |
